    Those are 90mm?! Man that impressive. I’m finding mine to be rather long compared to my ice skates, so I can’t maneuver as well as I can on ice. But seeing you gives me hope. I only need to become a pro at something that’ll probably kill me lamo

    Trying to learn again and get good enough for my city group rides, but I end up getting general anxiety about going outside to practice - you’d think it’d be easier to overcome as an adult vs. when I was a kid, lol.

    I bought new skates a few days ago after like 15 years off them. My goal is to be able to master the city of Stockholm (which fortunately has endless well-groomed bike lanes). I've binge watched your videos and have applied a few of your tips already, and it's coming back to me very quickly! Thanks for all your great content, dry humor and enthusiasm! I hope to be able to skate like you one day :D

    Youre so lucky to live in a developed environment, I stopped skating 5 years ago because of the street conditions and different traffic culture. So far, I'v gained weight, every joint hurts and I run out of breath by just walking. Keep up the hobbie Bill, and remember... Stay loooooww

    Bill, How 'bout a power stop/slide tutorial so we can build up to your power drop? I can do it on ice skates, and rather aggressively on snow skis, but not yet there on inline skates.

    Stay low. Drop lower. (but always be careful for pitfalls though.. here's a little story, it ends well I promise:) Bill I have to say you've been probably my biggest inspiration over the last few years after I picked up skating again (after a break from my teens to my mid-30s). I've developed a more and more intense and powerful (but controlled) style and I love to be in that zone. A bit too much probably though.. Because 2 weeks ago muscles around my groin / hip started to hurt. Went for another session the next day and stupid enough to ignore the pain but smart (and lucky) enough to find a wonderful physiotherapist after realizing how much I was asking from my body without any proper plan to prepare it to such intensity (mind you, I watched - but apparently completely ignored - your videos where you explain how much thought and energy you put in proper exercise schedules etc. 🤦‍♂). Good thing is this man seems to have a good understanding of what's going with which muscles etc. and how everything is connected with each other and how to fix things step by step. The great thing is he can think along with ways to prevent injury, become more aware of my own body and optimal ways to approach the activities I'd love to do in terms of exercise etc. So I'm very optimistic still, and if I choose to regard this whole thing as a valuable lesson I'm actually very thankful for this reality check. And very thankful for all the inspiring videos and the amount of effort you've put into those. 🫶

    You make those cuffs work real hard do you? Look at them flex!. I'm starting to get used to parallel sliding, will give your power drops a try when I can. I took your advice about going up sidewalks with a crossover and just skate them down, quite fun actually.

  • @CritCommanda
    @CritCommanda День назад

    Is the power-stop (and power-drop by extension) just for show or bragging rights? It doesn't seem like a practical braking method when other ways to stop (like a t-stop or a tight 180/360) wont shred your wheels and are easier to control. In all my years of rollerblading no one bothered doing power-stops on blades until youtubers became a thing.

      The rotation came as a surprise to me too on first examinations. This stop can be done straight on, with no rotation, but most of mine are on the slant, because the width of the walkway impedes the straight approach.

    When practicing generally or drilling specific skills, do you recommend an ideal time maximum? I'm a returning skater after ~15 years and hoping for a scientific rule of thumb in addition to listening to my body. I'm trying to be wary of overdoing it because of how much I missed skating.

    Is this possible to go down like that with a heel brake?

    • @HeadNtheClouds
      @HeadNtheClouds 6 дней назад

      So, your right foot would be raised up just a little, like you are about to step off the curb, but the left foot is the one actually rolling the curb. So it’s like a 1 footed roll off with the right foot simultaneously stepping. Then you just roll off it & land on both feet together. It’s a very subtle step with the right foot, the left foot stays with the right foot & lands in the street. I did it when an angry dog came at me. & said, “holy hell, I can roll a curb with a brake” it just kind of came natural. Wear padding as you navigate this! Don’t listen to anyone that tries to convince you to take off your brake if your comfortable with it. I’ve been skating for 40 years & the brake has saved my wheels from wearing down too much & it stops me quickly when something unexpected happens & hills!
